What is done at a Wellness Examination?

During a wellness examination your veterinarian will give your pet a nose to tail examination, which includes:

  • Check your pet’s weight
  • Listen to your pet’s heart
  • Listen to your pet’s lungs
  • Check your pet’s teeth and oral cavity
  • Evaluate your pet’s vision
  • Look in to your pets ears
  • Palpate your pet’s lymph nodes, abdomen and skin
  • Palpate the joints and muscles
  • Request additional laboratory test
  • Administer vaccinations

Kitten, Adult and Senior Feline Wellness and Vaccine Schedule

8 Weeks Old

  • Wellness examination
  • Weight check
  • First Feline Distemper Vaccination (FVRCP)
  • Check fecal sample for intestinal parasites
  • Deworming (if needed)
  • Feline Combo Test (Blood test to look for Feline Leukemia Virus and Feline Aids Virus)
  • Receive Flea/Tick preventative
  • Schedule an appointment for your pet’s second Distemper booster and First Leukemia booster in 3-4 week

12 Weeks Old

  • Wellness examination
  • Weight check
  • Second Feline Distemper Vaccination
  • First Feline Leukemia Vaccine (Given to outdoor cats only)
  • Check fecal sample for intestinal parasites if this wasn’t done at the 8 week visit
  • Deworming (if needed)
  • Receive Flea/Tick preventative
  • Schedule an appointment for your pets last Distemper booster, last Leukemia booster and Rabies vaccines in 3-4 weeks

16 Weeks Old

  • Wellness examination
  • Weight check
  • Third Feline Distemper Vaccination (Good for 1 year)
  • Second Feline Leukemia Vaccine (Good for 2 years)
  • Rabies Vaccine (Good for 1 year)
  • Receive Flea/Tick preventative
  • Schedule an appointment for your pets Spay/Neuter at 5-6 months.

5-6 Months Old

Most pets should be spayed/neutered between 5-6 months old. At this time we can also place a Microchip. A Microchip is not a GPS tracker. If you pet is lost or stolen, he/she can be identified by the microchip and returned to you.

1 Year Old

  • Wellness examination
  • Weight check
  • Feline Distemper Vaccination (Good for 3 years)
  • Feline Leukemia Vaccination (Good for 2 years)
  • Rabies Vaccination (Good for 3 years)
  • Check fecal sample for intestinal parasites
  • Receive Flea/Tick preventative

2-6 Year Old

  • Wellness examination (Yearly)
  • Weight check
  • Feline Distemper Vaccination (Every 3 years)
  • Feline Leukemia Vaccination (Every 2 years)
  • Rabies Vaccination (Every 3 years)
  • Blood Work (Your veterinarian will let you know if blood work is warranted)
  • Check fecal sample for intestinal parasites
  • Receive Flea/Tick preventative

7 Year and Older

  • Wellness examination (Yearly)
  • Weight check
  • Feline Distemper Vaccination (Every 3 years)
  • Rabies Vaccination (Every 3 years)
  • Feline Leukemia Vaccination (Every 2 years)
  • Check fecal sample for intestinal parasites
  • Senior Blood Work
  • Receive Flea/Tick preventative

Puppy, Adult and Senior Canine Wellness and Vaccine Schedule

8 Weeks Old

  • Wellness examination
  • Weight check
  • First Canine Distemper Vaccination (DA2LPP)
  • Check fecal sample for intestinal parasites
  • Deworming (if needed)
  • Receive Flea/Tick preventative (Given once monthly, year round, to repel and kill fleas and ticks)
  • Receive Heartworm preventative (Given once monthly, year round, to prevent Heartworm disease and Intestinal Parasites)
  • Schedule an appointment for your pets second Distemper booster, First Lyme booster and Kennel Cough Vaccine in 3-4 week

12 Weeks Old

  • Wellness examination
  • Weight check
  • Second Canine Distemper Vaccination
  • First Lyme Vaccine
  • Kennel Cough Vaccine (Only if you dog will be interacting with other dogs, boarding, attending training classes or going to the groomer) (Good for 1 year)
  • Check fecal sample for intestinal parasites if this wasn’t done at the 8 week visit
  • Deworming (if needed)
  • Receive Flea/Tick preventative
  • Receive Heartworm preventative
  • Schedule an appointment for your pets last Distemper booster, last Lyme booster and Rabies Vaccine in 3-4 week

16 Weeks Old

  • Wellness examination
  • Weight check
  • Third Canine Distemper Vaccination (Good for 1 year)
  • Second Lyme Vaccine (Good for 1 year)
  • Rabies Vaccine (Good for 1 year)
  • Receive Flea/Tick preventative
  • Receive Heartworm preventative
  • Schedule an appointment for your pets Spay/Neuter at 5-6 months.

7 Year and Older

  • Canine Distemper Vaccine (Every 3 years)
  • Lyme Vaccine (Once yearly)
  • Kennel Cough (Once yearly)
  • Leptospirosis Vaccine (Once early- on the years Distemper is not given.)
  • Rabies Vaccine (Every 3 years)
  • 4DX Test (Checks for Heartworm, Lyme Disease and 2 other common tick diseases)
  • Senior Blood Work (Checks organ function, thyroid levels, and blood counts)
  • Check fecal sample for intestinal parasites
  • Receive Flea/Tick preventative
  • Receive Heartworm preventative

Flea and Tick prevention as well as Heartworm and Intestinal Parasite prevention are based on your pet’s weight. Puppies and Kittens will need to be weighed monthly for the proper dose to be dispensed.
